Family Reunion Trumps Schnauzer Rocky Adoption
Our Happy Tails adoption stories make us smile, yet this amazing recent family reunion trumps our male Schnauzer Rocky adoption.
Rocky went to his forever home this week, but the best news is his real name is Prince and he reunited with his forever family!

Prince (temporarily named Rocky) fell victim to Tropical Storm Isaac when it hit Central Florida in late August. He was separated from his family and was lost for more than a month. Lifeline had discovered him as a stray, so he spent a few weeks enjoying the 3 acre Lifeline Dog Rescue property and private lake.
Our staff registered “Rocky” with the local Humane Society, and as fate intervened the match was eventually made. Lifeline staff confirmed his name as they watched his ears perk up when called “Prince”.
The meeting to reunite Prince and Dora was just as thrilling. Prince ran to Dora all excited, tail wagging, and the smiles captured above show the real love between them both.
What was especially cute was he would run back to Lifeline partner and on site manager Kim, and jump up happy happy happy as if to say “Thank you! Thank you!”, then back to Dora, and back to Kim again, then back and forth a few more times.

Lifeline is truly grateful to the Humane Society for enabling this family reunion. All “adoptions” are Happy Tails. This one is particularly gratifying.

Dermot En Route to Forever Home
The last leg of a long journey began today as Dermot the starved and abused American Bulldog Mix is en route to his forever home. He left today with all his paperwork, and will meet his new mom in Pennsylvania on Saturday!
Dermot was rescued from a public shelter and arrived at Lifeline Dog Rescue having been starved at 62 lbs. showing ribs and skin and bone on his hips, plus he was heartworm positive. A rusty wound deeply cut into his fur around the neck, plus numerous wounds and injuries
Dermot left Lifeline Dog Rescue early this morning on 27 Sep 2012 at 87 lbs. in full health including heartworm negative. Here are a series of photos to illustrate before and after.

The tranformation is complete and another high risk rescue dog is on his way by ground transport to his new forever home. Dermot’s new family is in Ontario, Canada, and includes a mom, daughter, and two large male dogs.

Dermot loves to swim and interact with the other dogs. He likes children, strangers, baths, grooming, and nail trims. He enjoys walks, swimming, and car rides. He is housebroken, comes when called, and walks on a lead.
We’re sure he will LOVE snow!

Weim Maggie Snags a Forever Home
Our sweet and friendly Maggie, a 4 year old female purebred Weim rescue dog, wears a big smile after she snags a forever home. She was adopted yesterday, Monday 24 September 2012, and her new human mom sent us this photo.

Home is on the west coast of South Florida, and the gorgeous single family house includes a fenced yard.
Katherine reports that Maggie did well her first 24 hours. She owns her business, and after a real good first night, she took Maggie to work with her and will again every day. Maggie was well behaved laying on her bed next to Katherine’s desk.
Katherine has experience with the Weimaraner breed, and chose Maggie because she misses her Weim that died, and wanted another Weimaraner because “they are such good companions”. When not at work, Maggie can look forward to plans that include walks, the dog park, swimming, boating, and shopping.
Thanks again, Katherine, for choosing to adopt our sweet and lovable Maggie! We wish you many years of happiness sharing new memories together with Maggie.

Momma Dog Chelsea Photos and Story

Our Facebook fans are likely familiar with the story of “Momma Dog” who we renamed Chelsea to honor a special fan and financial supporter.
Inserted throughout this post are a selection of pictures of Chelsea taken at Lifeline Dog Rescue Saturday, 22 Sep 2012. We look forward to more as she continues to improve.
For now, here are more details on her story.
Chelsea was a stray and evaded humans for at least 3 months on the streets of Lake Worth, Florida, had puppies, was captured by local dog rescue advocates, and then accepted for rehab and eventual adoption by Lifeline Dog Rescue.

Her puppies were easier to catch and 7 were taken into foster yet 1 was grabbed by persons unknown, so besides the trauma of life on the streets, she suffers that loss, as well.
Chelsea is not vicious, yet very scared and timid around humans. That trust will be earned over time by Lifeline staff.
Chelsea is heartworm positive, so the medical care, required rest, and rehab socialization will take months. It is a challenge that Lifeline has accepted with success many times before.
We truly appreciate the public support for Chelsea. A ChipIn campaign quickly met the donor goal of $1000, and we are very grateful to Juliana for starting the ChipIn, plus all the donors and cross posters who promoted “Momma Dog” Chelsea’s rescue and funding for her medical care and rehab prior to adoption.
She is making progress. Her mistrust of humans made the photo shoot last Saturday especially difficult. Denise, and our webmaster Jim, relied on zoom settings to get the photos shown here.
At times they felt like paparazzi watching Chelsea react as they moved about trying for the perfect shot.
She was wary while staring intently and countering their every move to keep her distance. It was painful to watch though we can understand her behavior.
While trying to get quality photos of Chelsea, it makes a person feel guilty and selfish being so obviously intent on her. We would much rather been giving her hugs and kisses!
After all, regaining trust in humans is difficult when you think you’re being stalked and must assume the worst based on prior history!

Denise and Jim captured some great photos, so we won’t be needing more of Chelsea any time soon. Thank God she has Kim on site to develop human contact, and Denise visits often to gradually reinforce the love and trust.
Thank you, again, to all the dog lovers who have stepped up to help us help Chelsea. In the end she will prove the cost, time, and energy were well worth the effort.
We look forward to the day when we can list her for adoption, and get her in the forever home that she deserves!
Kibou Joins a Family with Weims
Our sometimes goofy and very entertaining male Weimaraner rescue dog was adopted this weekend as Kibou joins a family with Weims. Lifeline Dog Rescue will miss our very special 3 year old, yet he now has a forever home with a human brother and two Weimaraner sisters.

Perry and Kathy plus son Zach pose behind Kibou (red collar and leash) at Lifeline Dog Rescue with Weim sister Jazz (blue collar) and Bella (hiding behind Kibou). The family has had Weimaraners going back more than 15 years, male and female, and wanted a younger companion for their 2 senior Weims.
Companionship is very important. Perry and Kathy have rescue cats, too, but the real bonding is between the dogs. Bella has health issues and looking ahead for a companion for Jazz now is a matter of being realistic.
We are actively pursuing the adoption of a young male. Jazz is a dog that does very poorly by herself for ANY length of time. While she IS a princess and a bit of a loner; she needs to know when the humans in her family are not home, that she has a buddy lying next to her; and felines don’t count.
Kibou will fit right in. He’s great with other dogs, children, and strangers. Kibou enjoys baths, grooming and nail trimming, plus going for walks and the dog park. He is crate trained, housebroken, comes when called, walks on a lead, and plays fetch.

Adoption for Luca the Male Weimaraner
Another friendly and lovable rescue dog has left Lifeline as we announce the adoption for Luca the male Weimaraner purebred. Luca went to his forever home on the east coast of Central Florida over the weekend. It was love at first sight.

Chuck and Cheryl have experience with Weimaraners and understand their special needs including an active lifestyle and plenty of exercise. When they met Luca at Lifeline Dog Rescue they enjoyed playing fetch and instantly bonded with Luca who showed true affection for both. On their adoption request form they wrote:
We recently lost our wonderful large boy, Jack, very suddenly. The vet could not tell if he got into something toxic or if he contracted a disease or had something coming on over time that became acute. It was devastating to us because he was so loving and just a handsome big boy. He weighed approximately 90 lbs. and was very tall and long.
We know we can never replace Jack but we fell in love with Weimaraners and want another one in our lives. We know they need lots of exercise and so do we. That’s no problem. We have no children and the dog is our family. We are interested in Luca because he appears to have many of the same characteristics we found in Jack.
The adoption for Luca the male Weimaraner is certainly ideal. As the new parents stated “…the dog is our family.” Luca can look forward to being a faithful companion for walks, the park, the dog park, swimming, and travel.

Ernie the Pitbull Mix Happy Tails
It was a joyous yet somewhat sad moment on September 21, 2011, as our Ernie the Pitbull Mix Happy Tails story had a happy ending. Ernie has been through so much since found nearly starved as a stray, spent time in a public shelter, and was rescued at the last moment from death row. After 9 months at Lifeline, Ernie has his forever home!

Ernie has been a canine celebrity at Lifeline since we published the pdf photo story of Ernie and Bert back in February. It was updated this week in September 2012 to include 6 new photos and 2 new pages to document the happy ending for Ernie, and his buddy Bert.
As shown above, Ernie has found true love with his new human parents Eric and Stephanie. Here is what she wrote on their adoption request form.
Before I read a word of Ernie’s story, my heart leaped for joy and had a knowing warmth wash over it that “that’s our dog.” It may sound cliche, hokey or corny, but there are no other words or reasons to describe exactly why my fiance and I chose Ernie. His purpose in our family is mainly to receive a plethora of love, play and affection from two people who simply adore animals of all kinds.
We would love to have him as a link between us, as well as a constant forever companion to join us on our local travels and leisure days. Although our niece does not live with us, we are hoping Ernie will enjoy giving and receiving the love and affection of a bright-eyed little gal.
This is truly a new and happy beginning for Ernie, our gorgeous and friendly male Pitbull Mix rescue dog.

Ernie can look forward to a wonderful life! Eric and Stephanie first met Ernie a week ago and were scheduled to see Ernie again today (Monday), but chose last minute to come Friday night. They couldn’t wait.
We are extremely grateful to Stephanie and Eric for choosing Ernie even before they saw his life story. The staff of Lifeline has shed tears over the pain of so many at risk dogs, and now shed tears of joy knowing Ernie has the forever home he deserves.

Active Lifestyle for Ella the Weim
Another Weimaraner was adopted this week from Lifeline Dog Rescue with a great future and active lifestyle for Ella the Weim. Lifeline staff truly appreciates this latest happy tails, and especially meeting Ella in the pouring rain!

Ella is shown above with Diana at Lifeline Dog Rescue the day they met. After getting acquainted and finalizing the adoption, the skies opened up with torrential rain just when it was time to leave. When possible we like getting photos of the special new family moment, so this was taken in the car as Ella and Diana were leaving.
Diana had commented earlier on her adoption request form about her choice of a Weimaraner.
I am in love with the intelligence and personality of the Weimaraner breed. I jog daily and want a dog to go with me. Good for both of us. I am also close to a dog park that allows for free run, and usually train my dogs off leash. They learn to come along on a bike ride and I take them wherever I go. I love their companionship.
Ella loves swimming, walking, the dog park, and car rides. She is crate trained, housebroken, comes when called, and walks well on a lead. She will truly enjoy jogging each day and the freedom to play off leash in the dog park.
Thanks again Diana for opening your home, heart, and life to make Ella your faithful companion. We wish you both many happy trails and a life building fond memories in the future.
Weimaraner Viszla Mix Margo Road Trip
Our very special female Weimaraner-Viszla mix breed Margo left Lifeline this week on a road trip to her forever home in Ohio. She is shown here just before leaving with her new human mom Jan who arrived in Florida from Ohio to meet Margo.

Lifeline Dog Rescue fans and blog readers may recall Margo from the Pilots n Paws Rescue Mission Pix taken when she arrived by private plane in early September 2012.
Adoptive parents Jan and her husband Steven are friends of volunteer pilot Jasone and his wife Ava who flew Margo to Lifeline by private plane from a public shelter in Mississippi. In their adoption request form Jan and Steven wrote:
We have been looking for either or Weimaraner or a Vizsla as a pet. We have been looking for approximately 6 months. We chose to wait until our son was 9 so that he was old enough to understand how to treat dogs.
Margo is certainly an experienced canine world traveler! This 2 year old Weimaraner-Viszla dog is so sweet and lovable we expect she will transition quickly and easily adjust in her new forever home.
The road trip to Ohio is the perfect time for quality bonding, and she has a new 9 year old human brother waiting for her. Readers may see more details of female dog Margo’s adoption on our main site.

Lovable Rescue Dog Steely Steals Home
Our lovable rescue dog Steely steals home earlier this month as he settled in to a new forever home on the east coast of Central Florida. He’s shown here with Brice his new human Dad.

Steely was rescued from a public shelter and required medical care prior to being released for adoption. He is a lucky Silver Lab with a new single family home including a fenced back yard and a new doggy brother who is 12 years old. Home is on a 1-1/4 acre property in a rural area.
Recreation plans include walks, swimming, and boating.
Thank you Brice and Cheryl for sharing your home and your lives to help create another happy ending for Steely. As usual, we will miss him dearly but are delighted to see him join such a wonderful new family.
