The Lifeline Dog Rescue team in Florida has completed a hectic two week period of transition on the anniversary of our first rescue. It’s time to announce recent changes made behind the scenes that affect the Lifeline structure and future plans going into 2013.

In the last two weeks, Lifeline has chosen to transition from being a physical shelter to a dog rescue foster network.

Despite the challenges, we are reminded of an event that took place exactly one year ago from today.

Rescue dogs Bert (front) and Ernie before adoption from Lifeline Dog Rescue

Our fans and supporters likely recall rescue dogs Bert and Ernie (shown here) who arrived at Lifeline on 14 December 2011. The heartwarming and popular PDF story of Bert and Ernie documented one of the first in many Lifeline Dog Rescue happy tails stories.

Looking back exactly one year, theirs is just one of many happy endings. We look forward to many many more in 2013 and beyond.

Our priority is the dogs, and as circumstances change, we must adjust how we operate to maximize our success placing dogs into forever homes. Like most dog rescues, we are an all volunteer staff.

Effective today, volunteer staff changes are being made at Lifeline.

Kim, Lifeline partner and on site resident caretaker, has resigned as a corporate manager on the advice of her doctors. With over 30 years experience dedicated to dog rescue while working a full time job, we have been truly blessed and certainly appreciate her tireless efforts on behalf of our dogs.

Kim will continue with volunteer support for Lifeline by networking to help place dogs, yet must give up the physical demands. Her contributions over the last year were a key factor in our organization growing beyond our expectations.

Likewise effective today, another very active and dedicated dog rescue advocate is joining the Lifeline volunteer staff. We’re pleased to welcome Michele Bella to the Lifeline Dog Rescue team. She has been very active in support of Lifeline on an informal basis.

Today Michele became a new member of our all volunteer staff and formal representative of Lifeline Dog Rescue.

Michele and other volunteers, along with Kim and Denise, have worked long hours including up to 24 hours at a time over the last two weeks taking action to place dogs, both adopted and in foster. All dogs under our care have been placed.

Stay tuned for adoption announcements. The number adopted has been amazing the last two weeks, and news will be posted to our blog and Facebook in the coming days.

Over the last two weeks, we apologize for the lack of information being published. Staff were busy networking to rehome dogs in foster and finalize adoptions. Our webmaster spent those same two weeks with a severe case of the flu, and helping the dogs took priority over publishing news.

The Lifeline structure and future plans remain very positive. We truly appreciate the vast number of Lifeline fans and contributors who have made our volunteer dog rescue work possible, and so rewarding.

We look forward to your continued support helping us write many more Happy Tails stories in 2013 and beyond.

Chloe and Bodi both came from the same public kill shelter and are 2 years old. They may or may not be siblings, yet each is very independent and available to adopt separately.

Chloe is somewhat timid, yet friendly. Bodi is a jumper and can easily clear a 5 foot fence. Both are very loving.

Other common characteristics include being friendly with other dogs, children, or strangers, plus swimming, taking baths, going for walks, and car rides.

She has a problem with aggression towards other dogs, yet not against people.

As a result, Raya has been tranferred to a dog behavior specialist, and initial feedback is positive. The purpose of the ChipIn campaign covers boarding, training, and rehabilitation.

ChipIn link: donate for training and rehab for Raya.

On rare occasions intakes of stray dogs from public shelters come with surprise problems affecting a dog’s health or behavior. The problem of being heartworm positive is treatable with medical care and weeks or months of treatment, rest, and relaxation.

Staff in overcrowded public shelters have time constraints and limited resources to prescreen dogs. Most will do an evaluation of health and temperament before advancing dogs into their adoption program.

New intakes at Lifeline Dog Rescue enjoy an environment where dogs are not caged and roam free. Our 3 acre fenced facility with private lake offers freedom, comfort, and safety, yet some dogs may need more transition time than others to adjust.

The staff of Lifeline Dog Rescue has over 30 years experience, so ongoing evaluation is done to identify and correct health and behavior problems of new intakes, dogs in rehab for medical issues, as well as dogs in the adoption phase.

Without any knowledge of Raya’s past history it is difficult to determine the cause, yet we quickly realized she did need help with aggression towards dogs. Help us help Raya. She is aggressive for now. She is not vicious.

Please follow the link above to the ChipIn campaign to support the training and rehab for Raya the female Weim-Lab mix. Watch for updates on this blog and our Facebook page.

We expect to write a happy ending for Raya to include being a trusted and loyal companion when adopted into a forever home.

Bambi was an owner surrender rescued from a public shelter and arrived at Lifeline heartworm positive. Treatments from August to October concluded with a clean bill of health.

Bambi was never listed on the main site for adoption because she was chosen and reserved during evaluation.

Her new family “fostered” Bambi during the last stage of her heartworm treatment. The transistion from homeless to adopted was made easier, plus she became acquainted with her new humans, doggy sister, and kitty cat family members.

Read additional details of the Happy Tails listing for Bambi on our main site.

A big thank you, again, to Joe, Mariza, and family for adopting Bambi into her new forever home. We are truly grateful for the time you took to foster Bambi leading up to the formal adoption.

Happy tails to all.

Dita was originally an owner surrender due to lack of time because of changes in their work schedule and business trips.

She knows the commands sit, stay, and down, plus enjoys playing fetch, swimming, walking, the dog park and car rides. Dita can look forward to more family time now, and has already taken the plunge getting used to the family pool shown above.

That amazing photo of love being shared with Dita in her new home was taken by Jack using the timer function on his camera. Well done!

Lifeline staff will miss our girl, yet are so happy to see how well she fits in already. Thank you again, Jack and family, for choosing to adopt our lovable female Weim Dita.

Lifeline staff are pleased to announce a new forever home for cutie patootie Paco, the male Min Pin Mix adopted over the weekend. Read more details of his Happy Tails adoption on our main website.

Paco the male Min Pin Mix rescue dog is shown held by human mom Kaitlin

Paco joined Kaitlin last weekend in their forever home on the west coast of Central Florida. Some of the fun things to do include going for walks, the dog park, swimming, and travel.

Kaitlin commented on the adoption form for Paco:

I have always wanted a miniature pinscher and am at a point in life where I can be home and available enough to fully take care of a dog. I am looking for a dog that would be my constant companion and enjoy going for walks with me. I am also looking for a dog that does well with other dogs. My friend has a two and a half year old lab boxer mix who I have helped raise and would like to be able to bring my dog down to play.

Up to now Paco has not had an easy life. He had been a stray picked up by animal control after being hit by a car, and was accepted by Lifeline Dog Rescue even though he required surgery on his right hip in June 2012. His recovery went well and he’s ready for his forever home.

Thanks again, Kaitlin, for choosing to adopt Paco, our lovable Min Pin Mix rescue dog.

Happy Tails to all.
