Based on investigator interviews of the dog owner, neighbors, emergency veterinarian, and 2 independent veterinarians, the Sheriff’s Department conclude that “hit by a car” was the cause of her injuries, not beaten with a baseball bat.
The initial “bat-wielding suspect” report was determined by Sheriff investigators to be a rumor.
From our perspective, it would be mere speculation as to why someone would claim to be an eyewitness to a baseball bat scenario, repeat that as fact to us, and then refute that statement with the authorities.
Perhaps that witness saw Pollo after she was injured and felt her condition was consistent with a beating, made that statement to us in person, and then could not state with certainty to investigators that they were an eyewitness.
Bottom line. Case closed. Pollo will survive. She is getting all necessary treatment, surgery, aftercare, and rehab.
We are grateful to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for their thorough investigation, reporting their findings to us last night, and reporting details on Facebook this morning.
